The above table is the top 20 club Academy’s by total revenue between 2014-23. Nothing too surprising with Benfica and AJAX remaining in the 1 and 2 positions. Liverpool pulling up the bottom of the table at number 20 (out of 100 – click the link for the full interactive table) was a little surprising and seeing the £347M Chelsea number got me thinking about the FLYNNDEX EPL Standing to Net Wage Spend indicator so I added to the table. It is interesting to note the similarities of the Total Revenue to the net wage spend. With big spenders Chelsea, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham ranking in the top EPL top 5 Academy Revenues and the CIES top 10 (out of 100) with Academy player revenues showing correlation to net wage spend.

Makes one wonder what numbers the big brains at Brighton (£312M net spend on £91M Academy revenue and 62/100 CIES top 100 table standing) and Ipswich Town (laying out £210M and not appearing in the top 100) are thinking. The numbers may not be directly correlated and there are of course many other revenue channels to consider in the context of overall club financial health but there does appear to be a relationship between league standing, wage spend, number of players transferred and Academy Revenue: clearly Chelsea’s Academy is producing great quality bolstering the club coffers and feeding young players to the first team at a level to be in the top 5 of both the EPL table and the CIES Academy Revenue table and number 3 on the CIES Top 100 for number of players sold at 28.

Here is the table by country and total revenue.
